My secret and I
I was born in 1985. I started writing when I was 13 years old. One day I just sat down at the computer and began to write a story that had been building up in my head for quite a while. I wrote every day after school and the pages turned into, what I call, my first book. I didn’t tell anyone that I was writing. It was my secret for a long time - maybe because I wasn’t one of those bright students in my junior years. I was one of those pupils, who had at least 10 errors in spelling, and often 20 or 30. But the more I wrote, the better I got, and when I started in the ninth grade, I was among the talented students. Furthermore I had completed writing my book. My very first book The project was still my secret and just a text on my computer. I eventually let my best friend in on my secret and allowed her to read it in exchange for some feedback. She was impressed, but I was not ready to show the world yet. Only when I started high school did I show it to my student counsellor who persuaded me, to send the book to a publisher, which I did. The publisher replied with a “no, thank you”. At the time it upset me a great deal, that the publisher turned down all my hard work, but fortunately I kept writing. Today I’m very grateful for the let down because, honestly, it wasn’t a particularly good book. HUF As time went by I got a growing desire to hook up with other young writers and in 2003 I founded the association HUF together with three other young people. HUF is short for Håbefulde Unge Forfattere, which in English means Aspiring Young Authors. I formed my very first writing group at HUF, and we met twice a month for severel years. We read each other's texts and gave constructive criticism. My writing group included authors Camilla Wandahl, Bettina Stuhr Lindskow and Marie W. Oscilowski. The association still exists. My dream comes true HUF turned out to be the push I needed. My dream of becoming a writer slowly but surely became reality. I took lots of courses in writing, and in 2008 I was admitted to the Danish Author School on the course Children's Literature. My first novel In 2010 my first novel Death Children, the first volume out of four in the fantasy series Skeletons in the Closet, got accepted and I could finally call myself a professional author. And now I am now an active author who writes every day. This means that I constantly have books in the making, and that I’m always in the process of writing even more.
